Classic Red Velvet Cupcakes

November 20, 2014 / by Liz

Sometimes, a classic cupcake is just want you want. So since I hadn’t made any cupcakes at all since arriving in Paris, I decided to make red velvet (one of my very favourite)! Since I’ve blogged these recipes before, the recipe for the cupcakes can be found here , and the recipe for the cream cheese frosting can be found here .

I think it must just be the difference in the ingredients here in France, but the batter was so nice and smooth, and the icing was SO silky! On nom nom.

I wanted to keep the decorations sweet and simple, so I decided to use some plain white sprinkles, and to make a small marzipan flower to top each one. I can actually buy white, green, and pink marzipan here in the grocery store!

I cut the leaves and flowers with tiny cutters, and added detail with my fondant tools.

And to assemble the flower pieces, I used the tiniest dab of water (since marzipan is sticky anyway).

I just love how these turned out.

And they really hit the spot too :)
