Classic Red Velvet Cupcakes

November 20, 2014 / by Liz

Main - Red Velvet Cupcakes

Sometimes, a classic cupcake is just want you want. So since I hadn’t made any cupcakes at all since arriving in Paris, I decided to make red velvet (one of my very favourite)! Since I’ve blogged these recipes before, the recipe for the cupcakes can be found here, and the recipe for the cream cheese frosting can be found here.

I think it must just be the difference in the ingredients here in France, but the batter was so nice and smooth, and the icing was SO silky! On nom nom.

1 - Cupcake Batter

5 - Silky Icing

I wanted to keep the decorations sweet and simple, so I decided to use some plain white sprinkles, and to make a small marzipan flower to top each one. I can actually buy white, green, and pink marzipan here in the grocery store!

2 - Marzipan

I cut the leaves and flowers with tiny cutters, and added detail with my fondant tools.

3 - Shapes and Tools

And to assemble the flower pieces, I used the tiniest dab of water (since marzipan is sticky anyway).

4 - Flowers

I just love how these turned out.

Final 1 - Red Velvet Cupcakes

And they really hit the spot too :)
