Two-Tone Nails with Hearts

February 18, 2015 / by Liz

So… I meant to post this manicure before Valentine’s Day… but I was pretty busy and just didn’t get around to it :/ But better late than never, right? Plus, they’re not overly valentine-y, and hearts are fun all year-round.

The colours I used were:

• Base Colour – ‘chinchilla’ from Ciaté
• Secondary Colour – ‘Into the Blue’ from Probelle
• Hearts – ‘hopscotch’ from Ciaté

I started with two coats of the lighter blue.

1 - Blue Base Coat

Once your nails are good and dry, place a piece of tape on each one before adding the second colour. (Get the tape ready beforehand – it’s really annoying to try to peel and cut with wet nails!)

2 - Prepare the Tape

3 - Tape On Nails

4 - Add Darker Blue

As soon as you add the second colour, remove the tape. Otherwise, if you let the polish dry first, the tape will take half of the new polish with it.

5 - Remove Tape

To make the hearts, I used a double-ended dotting tool and a small piece of tinfoil to hold the polish.

6 - Prep Dotting Tools

Just use the larger end of the dotter to make two dots next to each other (forming the top of the heart), and then use the smaller end to pull the polish down into a point.

7 - Hearts

I ended up painting a second coat of red polish over the hearts, because they were a little transparent. Just carefully do the same thing with the dotting tool.

Final - Hearts

Love these little ♥s :)
