Main - Homemade Donuts

Cake Donuts

Yield: 12 donuts

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 eggs, room temperature
  • 1½ teaspoons salt
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 tablespoon + 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 4¼ cups flour
  • 1 cup milk, room temperature
  • oil for frying
  • cinnamon sugar (½ cup sugar + 1 tablespoon cinnamon)

  • Add sugar, butter, eggs, salt, and vanilla to bowl of electric mixer, and mix on medium speed until light and fluffy.
  • In a separate bowl, combine the baking powder, nutmeg, and 2 cups of the flour. Alternate adding the flour mixture and milk to the mixer on low speed. Switch from the paddle attachment to the dough hook, and add the remaining flour.
  • Wrap the dough in plastic, and refrigerate for at least one hour.
  • On a floured surface, roll the dough out to ½ inch thickness, and cut out donut shapes (I used a glass, and a circular piping bag attachment for the centre holes).
  • In a deep fryer set to 350F, fry donuts on each side for 2-3 minutes until golden brown. Sprinkle with cinnamon sugar, and enjoy!
  • They’re also adorable glazed with sprinkles…

    Final - Glazed Donuts
